What is the difference between SCEC endorsed tamper seals and SCEC approved seals?
The term 'SCEC endorsed' was changed to ' SCEC approved' by the Australian Government's Security Construction and Equipment Committee, to describe products that have passed their evaluation. The initial SCEC product certificates and evaluated product catalogues stated that the security seals and bags are 'SCEC endorsed'. The more recent certificates and catalogues use the term 'SCEC approved'.
What are the conditions of SCEC Approval for meter seals?
Roto Seal - Wire Seal:
This is an individually numbered plastic button type seal designed to be secured using wire. A hand tool (sealing press) is used to close the seal and impress a code into the red seal insert.
The condition of approval is that the seal must have sequential serial numbers printed on the body of the seal. The sealing press must be fitted with a die with a three-digit code. The seal must be secured with a multi-strand nickel alloy (Monel) or stainless-steel wire.
Toolless Roto Seal - Wire Seal:
This is also an individually numbered plastic rotating button type seal. Twisting the plastic tag winds the wire into the seal until it seizes and the tag snaps off.
The condition of approval is that the seal must have the same last three digits on the seal flag and the insert. As with the Roto Seal, multi-strand nickel alloy (Monel) or stainless-steel wire is used to secure it. The tag must be broken off once secured.
